Traditional Indian diets were use to be rich in dietary fiber due to consumption of lots of vegetables, fruits, cereals and pulses. In today’s era due to modernization, westernization the increased consumption of fast foods, street foods can be observed that obviously lack in dietary fiber. Due to change in lifestyle and consumption pattern there is increase in the incidences of chronic degenerative diseases. Hence, this review is focused on explaining the role and benefit of one of the important component of Indian diet i.e. Dietary Fiber.
